Ok, this is the big mouth post! focusing mainly on the head because it is a strange shape, not all a circle and no way in hell is it a square. Essentially it is a post on overlapping which is when one item falls over another creating the illusion that it one item falls over another. In my copies I tried to illustrate it and I'll try to explain it too in this my native language , Lingua Franca to the world, English. Just as soon as my internet comes back up. Get up you traitor!!

The entire lesson in basic is overlapping shapes so that they look like they cover each other even though they really don't.

1) The two-part illustration explains the logic of overlapping. In example A, the complete form (1) is the forward and near one; the partial form (2) is behind and farther away. In example B, we see an array of forms as each from ovelaps the other- starting with a complete form (1) as the first - the interposing effect produces an illusion of depth -in- space sequence; the overlapping form can actually be given numerical positions (1,2,3,4, etc.) in spactial recession.

(2) Here is an illustration of the opposite of the preceding proposition.In this case, all the forms in the group are shown complete. None overlap. Note how each form seems to hold to the front of the pictur plane, and not one can be felt to recede into depth.

I can tell you all the receding and the forward forms but I can let you find them, it's easier that way.

Today I'm feeling lazy, unenthusiastic, bored, left out, gloomy, and I want to run more often to lose some weight and tone down muscles. I hate having this weird kinda wrestler's chest were it looks like your starting to get steroid boobs, but that's unimportant. Here's Lines of Action and Silhouettes done in an understanding, but still relatively torpid manner.

I guess the only real need for this lesson is to show that I get it huh? Here goes.I'm not 100% as to whether this illustrates my point but but do know that I get the idea. I'm gonna try and shoot straight through everything so I can get into studying my favorite artists. I may start with either Roy Raymonde or Erich Sokol. Or maybe Erich would be best to start off with I want to be able to paint like him by the end of the school year I have to learn realistic anatomy too, if I want to beat this challenge ahead of me. I gotta win at that art fair, sorry Nico, the trade is gonna take a while, but rust me, it'll be all the better for it.

OK! I'm finally redoing a few from the last two posts. There were a lot to handle in a short week so I kinda punked out and did like half, but I been doin' it for a while so I was pretty fine. I guess I can get more in depth with this one, though I'm kinda upset about it. I did a couple too well, so it's difficult to prove that over the computer but I should be good and ake more fixable mistakes later on.

I'll start with a bag full of crow.

This is the jerkI got the part notes correct but since they weren't aligned right and I thought they were way off.
But enough gab on him, let's talk about Wolfie.
For him I got around to making more of a noticable change. You'll see!These weren't aligned perfect either but I could notice more of a difference on them.
Here ya goo! Now's Droopy dog!The first time I tried Droopy, I got good but the jaw was HUGE! so it looked really bad.
But I guess it's supposed to be huge, I guess I just wanted to get it to being closer.I should mention that by now I would hope you've realised that these are new drawings so that I didn't make it too easy on myself and you, and that in real life I talk a whole lot more country. but apparently to New Yorkies I sound normal. Ish I hope.Almost done! Next is Obama and the flying goat!

The goat has always been hell! too many shapes and curves and what not to keep track of.Honestly when checking for mistakes, I kinda just wanted to get it done... I hope to master him someday, but I'd have to draw him a lot which I would need more time and more paper for.

I have too much time as is, I'm father time, but paper is low, and almost as illusive as a holy grail. "A" holy grail, I mean there's got to be more than one in different cultures, and I can't find one that the old man in the cave won't yell at me for taking.

Finally, My buddy found me this amazing video! I love the instumental, especially since they used real sets in addition to the computer instead of just Fruity loops, it's Flying Lotus. If you don't like the song the game makes them interchangeble, if you want you could play it on a Beatles' song and the track would still conform to the beat.

These are my drawings for lesson 1 of the $100,000 animation course.

I like them for the most part but I do need to do corrections. these next few are the ones I think I did fairly well on but if necessary I will correct them. I'll do the corrections as lesson three.
This duck is the one that I feel I've done the best.
Now everything up next is what I'll fix on lesson three. I don't think that they're really too awful except for Droopy, but these were the best I could do just by eye and I liked them when I compared them at first, but now I want to do a lot better on them because I want to get to being as good a painter as a certain someone.

I Drew Owls, and My Theory on Contrasted and Generic Characters

These are what I would like critiqued. And depending on what everybody say's I'll do some more owls, or some more practices.

On this first one I imagine as if he were interviewing a mouse for his eligibility as a good meal. I really like it but I'm conflicted on whether I should draw him again to make it look like he's just standing.

Sorry, on this I kinda ran out of space. So, is there anything I need? Cause I guarantee I'll do more Preston Blair drawings, I really enjoyed these ones and the practice pictures too.

I'd like to learn as much as I possibly could so that I'll be a good painter, And I'd like to do it right, and real fast so I can practice my guitar too! I'd enjoy being somebody who can paint and play so I don't only "Impress" people I know.

Now this second half is my opinion on what makes generic. For real, and I would also like if everybody pitched in and corrected me where I'm wrong.
Proportions on a bulldog gives them a ting more appeal as something unusual, than if they are a normally proportioned and you see them whenever you go out for a walk. Spike doesn't have as many contrasts in proportion as the other bulldog, everything on him is big. Big head, big chest big butt and feet, He's a typical big guy with evened out parts. The second dog on the other hand is more contrasted in design, his jaw is twice as big as is head so it looks smaller than it really is. his upper body is big while his lower body is tiny in comparison making him a tad less realistic and placing some distance between him and Spike. Also he bounds onto the absurd, so you kinda wonder how he holds his body up. He also looks funnier so I guess if Spike always had these proportions he'd be goofier as a result.

He really reminds me of Milt Gross, who I really want to study, but not right now.

That's all and This last drawing was supposed to be somebody, but I think everybody should try and guess so that I can see if I got her features right.

Contrasts!

Garsh! I didn't know how to handle this topic at first. I wanted to, so badly! Cause I heard on John K's blog that Katie Rice was like a master of it. (Or something or other) So I thought that it was just making a cute drawings. INCORRECT!

I made this study because I wanted to know Blair some more, but also because I thought this was what contrast was all about.

It's got a few but no.

I treated this as if it were a regular study, but because nobody reads that, I don't think, I'll report it down here.

On comparing head sizes Butch from Tom & Jerry (Who I'm fairly certain I got the wrong name) is described by Mr. John K as generic.

I didn't do too many studies on him just yet, but I most certainly will! I'll try to post them tomorrow, but I have Spanish and Geography homework to do.

Now, I didn't quite understand "generic" at first. At first I thought, "regular" people look at him and completely understand that he's a dog, Bulldog if you should be specific. But that;s wrong, it was that all his parts look like they are fitted together perfectly, and the way everybody else thinks how they fit together, like Bill and Joe got all their legos together and made the rocket ship like exactly on the box.

Butch's head is roughly the same size as his jaw, the jaw is technically bigger. His chest is large as it should be for a bull dog but while his backside is smaller it's still in that "BIG" range which would be similar for a real bulldog. His hands are similar in size to his feet, which are just a tad longer while his arms and legs are also fitted into a realistic bulldog design.

(I kinda understand now why I liked Tex better, but the roles eventually reversed cause CN kept showing marathons of Tex and I would see the same episode a hundred times in a day)

Now Tex's bulldog is pretty much the same thing but his distinguishing features are pushed to make him different and pretty unique. His jaw is like twice the size of his head so I'm sure he's got a nasty bite. His chest is huge! and I don't think real bulldogs chests are bigger than than their heads but his definitely is! the dog butt is tiny! his intestines must be scrunched up into his neck. Ouch!

one thing I really like about him is that his hands and feet are really different. arms and legs are as they should be, but his legs are shorter while his arms are longer than in a normal dog. his hands have that full round feeling like on Butch's but his feet are all flat and skinny at time but not any less full as his hands. Tex had the rocket Legos too but he put a twist after the first 20 instructions in the booklet and had to use some extra Legos from the train set, but it still came out good looking.

The best thing about both of them is that they use the "cartoon skin" theory that John believes in, and I found it really believable because of that. There's only one artist outside of the Spumco group that I know uses it. I don't know his name because it's in a different language but it makes every punch and kick feel pretty painful.

Now these are what I did as practices for the newly learned info.

Now this girl I drew as an idea for a cartoon not gonna happen as of yet obviously, but here goes. She's a masked fighter, like Kamen rider, or Spider-man for those unfamiliar. Maybe a "lone power ranger" would be a better explanation. She's a psychic, in which I'll take liberties in using that power to do whatever I may please, but can only affect the physical, she can't read minds. Well because of this, aliens want to remove her brain and keep it alive and use it as a weapon to beat up other aliens and to take over the earth. Yeah! but in the midst of all this she has to fight mutants, evil gangs of humans who help the aliens, giant robots, evil scientists, and other psychics, etc. I'll post

This first design looked really anime-ish to me so I decided to change it.

These designs at the bottom are better in my opinion. My girl is the upper figure while the second was an alternative design which I like much better. now when I did these, I kept looking back and forth to Katie and Luke's Skadi and Boudica designs I drew them a bit to get a better understanding but ultimately my first design looked too much like Skadi to me. At first she even had legwarmers that reflected Skadi's boots, though I tried to make it look like they overwhelmed her foot which worked against me. She also uses a weapon that reflects Skadi's! or actually moreso Boudica's, an Epee, some type of sword that I think most reflects a rapier. They're both tall and skinny (Or at least she looks so here) but to change it up some I gave her slightly thicker hips skinny legs arms and upper body and arms, then I made her hands and feet HUGE. I guess I could make her shorter too? and the feet should fit her body better. And here head could be bigger? Or not to really think about it...

Now secondly I wanted to do something else too. I wanted contrasts in secondary features too. I think this may have been to advanced for me, but I tried it. I got it more or less in the second try like with the hair I wanted that to be taller than it was wide in front of the band, and shorter and wider in the back. then the arms would be pretty thin in the top, then go al Popeye at the forearms, then vice versa on the legs. The typical female body yet it will be absurdly different in the two parts, and a cylander to hold them together. the only things I dislike, which aren't by too much are the hands and feet which are both fairly tiny. Also I hate having to make the cape smaller for now, but I want to be able to add a bigger negative space so that it makes more sense to me.

OK! This is the big wave! I'm going to try and do at least two of John K's compositions posts and draw a mangrove from a nature card I have. I'll be writing as I do it. I'm starting at 7:05pm. right now I'm measuring the frame around the picture, I'll do this to get the most similar size to the actually objects. I've found it at 7:18, so I'll start.

Oh suck! I lowered it! and the boy's head is too small while nightmare's is too big. Night's neck is too thin too and his negative space is too cramped Give me a minute and I'll fix as much as I can.
Done, there are other things but the important part is identifying it right?

Even the bubble I guess. It should be easier because I've got John's comp as a guide?...

I like it a bit but the colors are so screwy, between the two of them I got the right colors but I wasn't able to create then whenever I wanted but I think I can fix that. Feel free to comment on the paint too.

OK! Here's my post after months! Finally I'm back and not tired!

I started off with this Tom & Jerry cover I did a few studies here...

I got bored after a few days, (For some reason Blogger has screwed me over the colors)

I didn't even scan this onto the comp until last night. What I'm pissed about is I'm still too cooped up to try and paint anything yet! I'm totally freaked!

One of My favorite cute characters,the show's animators don't do her justice, She's cooler than the ice box! This looks nothing like her though. I drew her in a way I think she would have looked in the long long ago time. I'm going to have to ink this and enjoy it! There's no way out of it!!!

Nico needs new font and color too! Ay Nico? You remember the art trade right? Here's my side A. If you didn't get the memo I wanted both of us to do two drawings.

Part 1) We both take one character that we absolutely adore whether it be cuteness funniness or some other nonsense.

Part 2) We draw them in some new design (Maybe they're older, maybe they've undergone some makeover) but they have to be recognizable.

Part 3) We e-mail them to each other and they have to draw a version of the first version! (same rules as part 2 citing the original would probably help a lot)

I wanted the see what the end product would be I just know it's gonna have a fun look.Also can you ask Ben to join in? I'm giving him a choice, but your presently a hostage! I got this Idea when I saw his drawing of Poison Ivy, but being as antisocial as I am I'm a little intimidated to ask him personally. I don't think he knows me just yet.

These Superman comicbook covers are some of the funniest things I've ever seen! They're hilarious! There are tons of them were either he's killed Lois "By accident," dumped her for Lana, or some how ruined Jimmy Olsen's or Batman's lives. Check then out at http://superdickery.com. I want to be a painter! but a crazy good one at that! and also an animator! and then I'll paint warriors! all my friends have some weird drawing/painting niche, like animals and comic books, well I've decided on having mine be hulking( and not so hulking) men from ancient cultures trying to kill each other!

This is Miss Lal'C Mellk Mal, She's my favorite character from Diebuster (Gunbuster 2) she's a member of the Topless 'idol' or the group with the top kill scores amongst the Topless group. and no Topless doesn't mean what you think.

Ugly sketches huh? but that just happens to be how I work.

I actually start to get it after a while, like the fact she's 8 heads tall, real skinny.

And then the end result appears. I REALLY like this one cause I chibi-ed her up without it getting to be annoying to me, So I may try to paint it soon which will be most difficult.

Drawings come tomorrow but for now, here's something to annoy you all First up Nicholas Cage.
1. I don't like Nick, he's kinda awful, Don't know why though. I've been loitering on cartoon Brew for some time now. I got Nick from there, even if you like him you gotta admit, acting as the sorcerer in the live action "Sorcerer's apprentice" is a BAD IDEA.

2. I understand that your wife may want an extravagant wedding, but try to talk her out of a few ideas, because robbing four banks to pay for it all is yet another BAD IDEA.

3. Last one and then a good one. Naming your station 'Cartoon' Network and promising Live action is also a BAD IDEA. Oh yeah and changing your target audience from children and cartoon loving adults to what that guy up the street calls 'supple young boys' is a Worse Idea.

4. Good news, my internet kept shutting down during this post so I forgot.

No one should know this yet, but this week was rife with horrors and mental fears. This entire week I've been living in fear of the possible murder by some horrible devil cat that as I type this I'm ironically(?) coincidentally(?) staring into it's horrible eyes. Seriously! My routine for a post is to upload the pics then begin typing and I wanted folks to see it and then BAM! there the freaky bastard is! She's in my brain... I had a dream where I turn around to turn off my laptop and she comes out to bite my hand off, and several dreams were a guy in a mask of her face comes and kills me! She's at the bottom of the page and she's ugly as sin, late at night I'm charging through my house to keep it from killing me and I see it in the dark! It even brought back memories of fears for buying a haunted house when I grow up!

Now here's the skinny, the good skinny. This first drawing I was playing Final fantasy, yet again, and I fought numerous creatures called Cactuars, which look like cacti in this pose but I feel I should re-draw this because of several quirks I have with her. She's actually an old idea I was thinking about life on an island where weird kids lived, it was basically everybody in tribal gear and nonsensing around filled with fun and plays on words (if I could think of any) I had the idea that it would be the island where Fez from "That 70's Show" could be from, even with theAnother, but now she looks like a woodpecker...

This second picture I happen to like a lot more, I plan to ink it in Flash then print it and color multiple copies with markers.
I even wanted this second picture to pull in tow, edit her in if at all possible.

Next is Miss Lisa Hannigan, drawn after "The Colbert Report" and she sang. I liked her sound so I found her Myspace and sent a friend request, which is kinda weird for me when usually it's foreign musicians who want to make friends with me. I'm popular with indie musics on Myspace, the Facebook is strange also I joined Vampire Wars with two friends which is uncontrollably annoying in fact that I want to beat down everybody!

Favorite game right now is Final Fantasy 8. for some reason every time I type the title, it comes out as fanal...? I got up to Edea's assassination and the parade and I drew the costumes below while thinking about the dancers. Laguna is an awesome guy, if he were real I'd hope would have a happier life, although, he was president... I beat the game already, when I was maybe 12 or sumthin,' but it's just so dang good! Especially after the disappointment of X & X-2; It was too cinematic if that's possible, and you couldn't fly your airship! The guy that directed it should be burned at the stake!

One final note: I wanna see Laguna in Kingdom Hearts! as Squall's heartless/Nobody! Now here's the opening video that scared my brother when we were little!

Hay Nico, I was planning on posting up your drawing today, but my dad took me to visit my mom in Douglasville which is becoming regular for weekends. I've already finish the picture and I'd drawn three girls, but I'll have to post it on Sunday. I'll draw some more to post too! and I'll also post my failed attempt at freehand drawing yours and Kali's heads. In the mean time have Ruby Gloom! She's one of my favorites to draw because, although the show is new modern and obvious, the main character's design is one of the most appealing things I've ever seen! So here she is, and I'll post your pics as soon as possible!

Dennis the Menace Comic Cover #1

Dennis the Menace finally appears! This took me four days until I got it good enough to be likeable and it's still wrong! I checked it constantly against my bedroom light, and then my living room light, and then my mom's house light, and finally my classroom light this morning! Hopefully the next one will take less time! I wrote down everything I noticed as it came up, and a lot of stuff came up! I actually think I missed some stuff. But it sure is damn close! and using photoshop is out of the question now, unless I start painting and PS is easier. It still has that damn tilt though! (Is that a problem of line of action?)

^ This first part above took me, I think, two days. I kept checking the structure underneath uncountable times, until I got it right(Which was wrong still)
^ this is the finished product I didn't bother with all the details but I got the hair wrong possibly ### number of times( I didn't count) I'll try the entire cover for the next one Hopefully I'll get rid of the evil angle.

This is everything I made this week! Prepare to have it blow out the back of you head!
^ This was the week's first I was based from the next picture that I made of a class mate although I extended the neck a bit.

^This was the week's second drawing from something pretty old from when I first made a blog.
^This was the third, I'm confused with the timing on the rest. This guy has not been checked either.
^this is old, I think two years now, I did not know what structure was then but I loved to draw so I still like it a bit and I decided to redraw him.
^This was the first try I was still figuring out the head shape so it already came out wrong.^ These are the second and third, at this point I realized he was a flower child. One of those guys with a name like Susan or Miriam because his hippie parents did not want a boy.
^I think this was my best one one all week! I made everything really curvy and I was not measuring but I really enjoy it.
I drew this trying to figure out a better head shape, and I remembered Katie Rice made a post a while back about how she draws the head shape and then the jaw and after this I started doing that with everything! including the next picture.
This was a mistake of weirdness, I thought the initial character was strange in the pose I'd given him and I wanted to practice emotional lines from my 2D design class( I was trying to get into 2D Drawing but hit the wrong button). But I continued on with emotional line, I think I may try to actually copy some.

Oh, If you haven't heard, I'm a Trek fan now because of "Robot Chicken" I used to watch it sometimes but I never really got into it until after "Le Wrath Di Khan"

Let me explain the first four I was simply looking and then copying it putting it into photoshop and getting it wrong. The last one, I used my eye to measure everything, I measured all the empty spaces when I was drawing and that was the result! I think I could only screw it up if I erase and try again! This is so totally amazing!

I did it! I was freaking out! I know the head is a little bit off, But is was the first I measured and the neck is amazing! I'm gonna go and do more small ones and then go into the whole 'compositions' thing. I'm still reeling from the Hare grow thing. I'll get it better!

I'm asking you for advice. I'm not looking for some strange and superficial advice, but really for tips to become better. Right now I've been working on the structure of my drawings for a while and I decided to just jump right into painting it. As you can see nothing good came in the end result.What I'm trying to ask you is from what you see, is there any way you know that I can improve the structure underneath my drawing? A critic? because I've been trying to work with a this strong building underneath:

I'm almost certain I don't have it 100% right and I'm trying to really shell it out. So here it is:
I did everything that the FACC told me, and followed the instructions as well, but I think I would benefit from your critic. I only need help with building her, my school is letting me sit-in on the painting classes too as long as I bring my supplies so I'll ask about that later. For now I'll work on the structure then I think I can move to anatomy, composition, and so on. I'm fine with it being public but I hope it is not too bad of a picture.
